Yesterday I wrote an article on the benefits of collagen, you can read all about that here (I’m also giving away three containers of it so make sure you enter!). Collagen is found in the bones, hooves and hides of animals and is rarely eaten anymore, whereas our ancestors ate a significant amount of it.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and it rapidly declines after the age of 25, which is why we often see symptoms like wrinkles, cellulite and brittle hair and nails as we age. From my article yesterday…

Due to modern diets rich in sugar, processed carbohydrates and a slew of other unhealthy foods, most people are dealing with some level of gut issues, from irregularity to IBS. Collagen is more easily absorbed and therefore great for those who struggle with gut issues. Collagen has been shown to strengthen mucosal lining and improve low stomach acid.

In part, cellulite is caused by a breakdown of collagen. Of course there are many causes of cellulite, but I’ve personally found that the appearance of my thighs looks a lot better when I’m drinking collagen regularly.

Hair and nails are largely made up of collagen, after all it is the most abundant protein in the body. Like bones and joints, hair and nails will naturally become more brittle as we age due to a decrease in collagen production.

Like I said above, our bodies produce less and less collagen after the age of 25, which often shows up not just in our weaker bones and joins, but on our face. A lack of collagen leads to sagging, sallow, wrinkled skin. But consuming collagen daily firms and tones the skin, leaving you with a bright, youthful glow.

  1. Can we use lemon oil?? if we do not have lemons on hand? also how much do you drink in a day?? thanks!

  2. Do you keep the mixture in the refrigerator and drink it every day?
Does the collagen remain “mixed” in the solution? I would think it would thicken.
Can it be heated to tepid before drinking?

    thank you!

Yes, yes, no. The collagen I recommend dissolves in liquid, heating it destroys the enzymes in the raw honey and lemon.

  3. I just found your site. I love all the information you are sharing!!!

  4. How should I take this lemonade? How often? What quantity? Thanks!

It depends on the person. I drink a cup or two a day until it’s gone.

  5. I find this very interesting. In the culture I was raised, we cooked with soup bones all the time. People look years younger than they really are. My uncle had to grow a mustache in order to be recognized as a man because he looked so boyish. I struggled being recognized as an adult until several years ago when my grays started showing.

Yep, I use them interchangeably even though I shouldn’t.

  6. You said that the heat would destroy the enzymes in the honey. Do you use honey instead of the Maple syrup?

  7. I love collagen. I’ve tried a few different brands now, including . I started taking it hoping it would make a difference in my knees ( osteoarthritis ) it hasn’t. I’ve been using it everyday for 7 mos. now. That being said,it has made a huge improvement in my skin,I’m telling you HUGE! My skin is smoother, softer, less dry, brighter in general,it looks fantastic. I’m almost 60 and all those tiny fine lines you get under your eyes, they are totally gone,no lie, totally gone!????. I mix it in iced coffee every morning it doesn’t change the taste at all. I am going to try this lemonade tho, shake things up a bit. Personally,I will never stop using it. You’ll see the changes,I promise.

  8. Is the maple syrup a requirement? Could I use stevia or just drink it straight to reduce the sugar? Would the benefits be the same.

  9. Can you recommend a brand of collagen? Aren’t there different varieties of collagen with different purposes?
